THE WORD OF THE LORD<\/strong><\/p>\n

THAT CAME TO JOEL<\/strong><\/p>\n

THE SON OF PETHUEL.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

HEAR THIS,<\/strong><\/p>\n

YE OLD MEN,<\/strong><\/p>\n

AND GIVE EAR,<\/strong><\/p>\n

ALL YE INHABITANTS<\/strong><\/p>\n

OF THE LAND.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Hath this been in your days,<\/p>\n

or even in the days of your fathers?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Tell ye your children of it,<\/p>\n

and let your children tell their children,<\/p>\n

and their children another generation.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

That which the palmerworm hath left<\/p>\n

hath the locust eaten;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and that which the locust hath left<\/p>\n

hath the cankerworm eaten;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and that which the cankerworm hath left<\/p>\n

hath the caterpiller eaten.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Awake,<\/p>\n

ye drunkards,<\/p>\n

and weep;<\/p>\n

and howl,<\/p>\n

all ye drinkers of wine,<\/p>\n

because of the new wine;<\/p>\n

for it is cut off from your mouth.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For a nation is come up upon my land,<\/p>\n

strong,<\/p>\n

and without number,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

whose teeth are the teeth of a lion,<\/p>\n

and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He hath laid my vine waste,<\/p>\n

and barked my fig tree:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

he hath made it clean bare,<\/p>\n

and cast it away;<\/p>\n

the branches thereof are made white.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Lament like a virgin<\/p>\n

girded with sackcloth<\/p>\n

for the husband of her youth.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The meat offering<\/p>\n

and the drink offering<\/p>\n

is cut off from the house of the LORD;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

the priests,<\/p>\n

the LORD’S ministers,<\/p>\n

mourn.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The field is wasted,<\/p>\n

the land mourneth;<\/p>\n

for the corn is wasted:<\/p>\n

the new wine is dried up,<\/p>\n

the oil languisheth.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Be ye ashamed,<\/p>\n

O ye husbandmen;<\/p>\n

howl,<\/p>\n

O ye vinedressers,<\/p>\n

for the wheat and for the barley;<\/p>\n

because the harvest of the field is perished.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The vine is dried up,<\/p>\n

and the fig tree languisheth;<\/p>\n

the pomegranate tree,<\/p>\n

the palm tree also,<\/p>\n

and the apple tree,<\/p>\n

even all the trees of the field,<\/p>\n

are withered:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

because joy is withered away<\/p>\n

from the sons of men.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Gird yourselves,<\/p>\n

and lament,<\/p>\n

ye priests:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

howl,<\/p>\n

ye ministers of the altar:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

come,<\/p>\n

lie all night in sackcloth,<\/p>\n

ye ministers of my God:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Is not the meat cut off before our eyes,<\/p>\n

yea,<\/p>\n

joy and gladness from the house of our God?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The seed is rotten under their clods,<\/p>\n

the garners are laid desolate,<\/p>\n

the barns are broken down;<\/p>\n

for the corn is withered.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

How do the beasts groan!<\/p>\n

the herds of cattle are perplexed,<\/p>\n

because they have no pasture;<\/p>\n

yea,<\/p>\n

the flocks of sheep are made desolate.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

O LORD,<\/p>\n

to thee will I cry:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness,<\/p>\n

and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The beasts of the field cry also unto thee:<\/p>\n

for the rivers of waters are dried up,<\/p>\n

and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Blow ye the trumpet in Zion,<\/p>\n

and sound an alarm in my holy mountain:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

let all the inhabitants of the land tremble:<\/em><\/p>\n

for the day of the LORD cometh,<\/em><\/p>\n

for it is nigh at hand<\/em>;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A day of darkness<\/p>\n

and of gloominess,<\/p>\n

a day of clouds<\/p>\n

and of thick darkness,<\/p>\n

as the morning spread upon the mountains:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

a great people and a strong;<\/p>\n

there hath not been ever the like,<\/p>\n

neither shall be any more after it,<\/p>\n

even to the years of many generations.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A fire devoureth before them;<\/p>\n

and behind them a flame burneth:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

the land is as the garden of Eden before them,<\/p>\n

and behind them a desolate wilderness;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

yea, and nothing shall escape them.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses;<\/p>\n

and as horsemen,<\/p>\n

so shall they run.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Like the noise of chariots on the tops of mountains<\/p>\n

shall they leap,<\/p>\n

like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble,<\/p>\n

as a strong people set in battle array.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Before their face the people shall be much pained:<\/p>\n

all faces shall gather blackness.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

They shall run like mighty men;<\/p>\n

they shall climb the wall like men of war;<\/p>\n

and they shall march every one on his ways,<\/p>\n

and they shall not break their ranks:<\/p>\n

Neither shall one thrust another;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

they shall walk every one in his path:<\/p>\n

and when they fall upon the sword,<\/p>\n

they shall not be wounded.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

They shall run to and fro in the city;<\/p>\n

they shall run upon the wall,<\/p>\n

they shall climb up upon the houses;<\/p>\n

they shall enter in at the windows like a thief.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The earth shall quake before them;<\/em><\/p>\n

the heavens shall tremble:<\/em><\/p>\n

the sun and the moon shall be dark,<\/em><\/p>\n

and the stars shall withdraw their shining:<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army:<\/p>\n

for his camp is very great:<\/p>\n

for he is strong that executeth his word:<\/p>\n

for the day of the LORD is great<\/em><\/p>\n

and very terrible;<\/em><\/p>\n

and who can abide it<\/em>?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Therefore also now,<\/p>\n

saith the LORD,<\/p>\n

turn ye even to me with all your heart,<\/p>\n

and with fasting,<\/p>\n

and with weeping,<\/p>\n

and with mourning:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And rend your heart,<\/em><\/p>\n

and not your garments<\/em>,<\/p>\n

and turn unto the LORD your God:<\/p>\n

f<\/p>\n

or he is gracious<\/p>\n

and merciful,<\/p>\n

slow to anger,<\/p>\n

and of great kindness,<\/p>\n

and repenteth him of the evil.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Who knoweth if he will return and repent,<\/p>\n

and leave a blessing behind him;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

even a meat offering<\/p>\n

and a drink offering<\/p>\n

unto the LORD your God?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

BLOW THE TRUMPET IN ZION,<\/p>\n

sanctify a fast,<\/p>\n

call a solemn assembly:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Gather the people,<\/p>\n

sanctify the congregation,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

assemble the elders,<\/p>\n

gather the children,<\/p>\n

and those that suck the breasts:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber,<\/p>\n

and the bride out of her closet.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Let the priests,<\/p>\n

the ministers of the LORD,<\/p>\n

weep between the porch and the altar,<\/p>\n

and let them say,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Spare thy people,<\/p>\n

O LORD,<\/p>\n

and give not thine heritage to reproach,<\/p>\n

that the heathen should rule over them:<\/p>\n

wherefore should they say among the people,<\/p>\n

Where is their God?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Then will the LORD be jealous for his land,<\/p>\n

and pity his people.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Yea,<\/p>\n

the LORD will answer<\/p>\n

and say unto his people,<\/p>\n

Behold,<\/p>\n

I will send you corn,<\/p>\n

and wine,<\/p>\n

and oil,<\/p>\n

and ye shall be satisfied therewith:<\/p>\n

and I will no more make you a reproach<\/p>\n

among the heathen:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But I will remove far off from you the northern army,<\/p>\n

and will drive him into a land barren<\/p>\n

and desolate,<\/p>\n

with his face toward the east sea,<\/p>\n

and his hinder part toward the utmost sea,<\/p>\n

and his stink shall come up,<\/p>\n

and his ill savour shall come up,<\/p>\n

because he hath done great things.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Fear not,<\/p>\n

O land;<\/p>\n

be glad and rejoice:<\/p>\n

for the LORD will do great things.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Be not afraid,<\/p>\n

ye beasts of the field:<\/p>\n

for the pastures of the wilderness do spring,<\/p>\n

for the tree beareth her fruit,<\/p>\n

the fig tree and the vine do yield their strength.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

BE GLAD THEN,<\/p>\n

YE CHILDREN OF ZION,<\/p>\n

and rejoice in the LORD your God:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

for he hath given you the former rain moderately,<\/p>\n

and he will cause to come down for you the rain,<\/p>\n

the former rain,<\/p>\n

and the latter rain in the first month.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And the floors shall be full of wheat,<\/p>\n

and the fats shall overflow with wine and oil.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten,<\/p>\n

the cankerworm,<\/p>\n

and the caterpiller,<\/p>\n

and the palmerworm,<\/p>\n

my great army which I sent among you.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And ye shall eat in plenty,<\/p>\n

and be satisfied,<\/p>\n

and praise the name of the LORD your God,<\/p>\n

that hath dealt wondrously with you:<\/p>\n

and my people shall never be ashamed.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel,<\/p>\n

and that I am the LORD your God,<\/p>\n

and none else:<\/p>\n

and my people shall never be ashamed.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And it shall come to pass afterward,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

your old men shall dream dreams,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

your young men shall see visions:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And also upon the servants<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

and upon the handmaids<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

in those days will I pour out my spirit.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00a0 And I will shew wonders in the heavens<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

and in the earth,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

blood,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

and fire,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

and pillars of smoke.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The sun shall be turned into darkness,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

and the moon into blood,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And it shall come to pass,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

shall be delivered:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

for in mount Zion<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

and in Jerusalem<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

shall be deliverance,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

as the LORD hath said,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For, behold,<\/p>\n

in those days,<\/p>\n

and in that time,<\/p>\n

when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah<\/em><\/p>\n

and Jerusalem<\/em>,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I will also gather all nations,<\/em><\/p>\n

and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat<\/em>,<\/p>\n

and will plead with them there for my people<\/p>\n

and for my heritage Israel,<\/p>\n

whom they have scattered among the nations,<\/p>\n

and parted my land.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

AND THEY HAVE CAST LOTS FOR MY PEOPLE;<\/p>\n

and have given a boy for an harlot,<\/p>\n

and sold a girl for wine,<\/p>\n

that they might drink.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Yea,<\/p>\n

and what have ye to do with me,<\/p>\n

O Tyre, and Zidon,<\/p>\n

and all the coasts of Palestine?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

will ye render me a recompence?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and if ye recompense me,<\/p>\n

swiftly and speedily will I return your recompence<\/p>\n

upon your own head;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Because ye have taken my silver<\/p>\n

and my gold,<\/p>\n

and have carried into your temples<\/p>\n

my goodly pleasant things:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The children also of Judah<\/p>\n

and the children of Jerusalem<\/p>\n

have ye sold unto the Grecians,<\/p>\n

that ye might remove them far from their border.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Behold,<\/p>\n

I will raise them out of the place<\/p>\n

whither ye have sold them,<\/p>\n

and will return your recompence<\/p>\n

upon your own head:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And I will sell your sons<\/p>\n

and your daughters<\/p>\n

into the hand of the children of Judah,<\/p>\n

and they shall sell them to the Sabeans,<\/p>\n

to a people far off:<\/p>\n

for the LORD hath spoken it.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

PROCLAIM YE THIS AMONG THE GENTILES;<\/p>\n

Prepare war,<\/p>\n

wake up the mighty men,<\/p>\n

let all the men of war draw near;<\/p>\n

let them come up:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Beat your plowshares into swords,<\/p>\n

and your pruninghooks into spears:<\/p>\n

let the weak say,<\/p>\n

I am strong.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Assemble yourselves,<\/p>\n

and come,<\/p>\n

all ye heathen,<\/p>\n

and gather yourselves together round about:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

thither cause thy mighty ones to come down,<\/p>\n

O LORD.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Let the heathen be wakened,<\/p>\n

and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat:<\/p>\n

for there will I sit to judge all the heathen round about.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Put ye in the sickle,<\/p>\n

for the harvest is ripe:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

come,<\/p>\n

get you down;<\/p>\n

for the press is full,<\/p>\n

the fats overflow;<\/p>\n

for their wickedness is great.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

MULTITUDES.<\/p>\n

MULTITUDES IN THE VALLEY OF DECISION<\/p>\n

for the day of the LORD is near<\/p>\n

in the valley of decision.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The sun and the moon shall be darkened,<\/em><\/p>\n

and the stars shall withdraw their shining.<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The LORD also shall roar out of Zion,<\/p>\n

and utter his voice from Jerusalem;<\/p>\n

and the heavens and the earth shall shake<\/em>:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

but the LORD will be the hope of his people,<\/p>\n

and the strength of the children of Israel.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So shall ye know that I am the LORD your God<\/p>\n

dwelling in Zion,<\/p>\n

my holy mountain:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

then shall Jerusalem be holy,<\/p>\n

and there shall no strangers pass through her any more.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

AND IT SHALL COME TO PASS IN THAT DAY,<\/p>\n

that the mountains shall drop down new wine,<\/p>\n

and the hills shall flow with milk,<\/p>\n

and all the rivers of Judah shall flow with waters,<\/p>\n

and a fountain shall come forth of the house of the LORD,<\/p>\n

and shall water the valley of Shittim.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Egypt shall be a desolation,<\/p>\n

and Edom shall be a desolate wilderness,<\/p>\n

for the violence against the children of Judah,<\/p>\n

because they have shed innocent blood in their land.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But Judah shall dwell for ever,<\/p>\n

and Jerusalem from generation to generation.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For I will cleanse their blood that I have not cleansed:<\/p>\n

for the LORD dwelleth in Zion.<\/p>\n
