ALSO I<\/strong><\/p>\n

IN THE FIRST YEAR OF DARIUS THE MEDE,<\/strong><\/p>\n

EVEN I,<\/strong><\/p>\n

STOOD TO CONFIRM<\/strong><\/p>\n

AND TO STRENGTHEN HIM.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And now will I show thee the truth.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Behold,<\/p>\n

there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia;<\/p>\n

and the fourth shall be far richer than they all:<\/p>\n

and by his strength<\/p>\n

through his riches<\/p>\n

he shall stir up all against the realm of Grecia.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And a mighty king shall stand up,<\/p>\n

that shall rule with great dominion,<\/p>\n

and do according to his will.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And when he shall stand up,<\/p>\n

his kingdom shall be broken,<\/p>\n

and shall be divided<\/p>\n

toward the four winds of heaven;<\/p>\n

and not to his posterity,<\/p>\n

nor according to his dominion which he ruled:<\/p>\n

for his kingdom shall be plucked up,<\/p>\n

even for others beside those.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And the king of the south shall be strong,<\/p>\n

and one of his princes;<\/p>\n

and he shall be strong above him,<\/p>\n

and have dominion;<\/p>\n

his dominion shall be a great dominion.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And in the end of years<\/p>\n

they shall join themselves together;<\/p>\n

for the king’s daughter of the south<\/p>\n

shall come to the king of the north<\/p>\n

to make an agreement:<\/p>\n

but she shall not retain the power of the arm;<\/p>\n

neither shall he stand,<\/p>\n

nor his arm:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

but she shall be given up,<\/p>\n

and they that brought her,<\/p>\n

and he that begat her,<\/p>\n

and he that strengthened her in these times.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But out of a branch of her roots<\/p>\n

shall one stand up in his estate,<\/p>\n

which shall come with an army,<\/p>\n

and shall enter into the fortress<\/p>\n

of the king of the north,<\/p>\n

and shall deal against them,<\/p>\n

and shall prevail:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And shall also carry captives<\/p>\n

into Egypt<\/p>\n

their gods,<\/p>\n

with their princes,<\/p>\n

and with their precious vessels of silver<\/p>\n

and of gold;<\/p>\n

and he shall continue more years<\/p>\n

than the king of the north.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So the king of the south<\/p>\n

shall come into his kingdom,<\/p>\n

and shall return into his own land.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But his sons shall be stirred up,<\/p>\n

and shall assemble a multitude of great forces:<\/p>\n

and one shall certainly come,<\/p>\n

and overflow,<\/p>\n

and pass through:<\/p>\n

then shall he return,<\/p>\n

and be stirred up,<\/p>\n

even to his fortress.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And the king of the south<\/p>\n

shall be moved with choler,<\/p>\n

and shall come forth and fight with him,<\/p>\n

even with the king of the north:<\/p>\n

and he shall set forth a great multitude;<\/p>\n

but the multitude shall be given into his hand.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And when he hath taken away the multitude,<\/p>\n

his heart shall be lifted up;<\/p>\n

and he shall cast down many ten thousands:<\/p>\n

but he shall not be strengthened by it.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For the king of the north shall return,<\/p>\n

and shall set forth a multitude<\/p>\n

greater than the former,<\/p>\n

and shall certainly come after certain years<\/p>\n

with a great army and with much riches.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And in those times there shall many stand up<\/p>\n

against the king of the south:<\/p>\n

also the robbers of thy people<\/p>\n

shall exalt themselves to establish the vision;<\/p>\n

but they shall fall.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So the king of the north shall come,<\/p>\n

and cast up a mount,<\/p>\n

and take the most fenced cities:<\/p>\n

and the arms of the south<\/p>\n

shall not withstand,<\/p>\n

neither his chosen people,<\/p>\n

neither shall there be any strength to withstand.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But he that cometh against him<\/p>\n

shall do according to his own will,<\/p>\n

and none shall stand before him:<\/p>\n

and he shall stand in the glorious land,<\/p>\n

which by his hand shall be consumed.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He shall also set his face to enter<\/p>\n

with the strength of his whole kingdom,<\/p>\n

and upright ones with him;<\/p>\n

thus shall he do:<\/p>\n

and he shall give him the daughter of women,<\/p>\n

corrupting her:<\/p>\n

but she shall not stand on his side,<\/p>\n

neither be for him.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

After this shall he turn his face unto the isles,<\/p>\n

and shall take many:<\/p>\n

but a prince for his own behalf<\/p>\n

shall cause the reproach offered by him<\/p>\n

to cease;<\/p>\n

without his own reproach<\/p>\n

he shall cause it to turn upon him.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Then he shall turn his face<\/p>\n

toward the fort of his own land:<\/p>\n

but he shall stumble and fall,<\/p>\n

and not be found.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Then shall stand up in his estate<\/p>\n

a raiser of taxes<\/p>\n

in the glory of the kingdom:<\/p>\n

but within few days he shall be destroyed,<\/p>\n

neither in anger,<\/p>\n

nor in battle.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And in his estate shall stand up a vile person,<\/em><\/p>\n

to whom they shall not give<\/em><\/p>\n

the honour of the kingdom:<\/em><\/p>\n

but he shall come in peaceably,<\/em><\/p>\n

and obtain the kingdom by flatteries.<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And with the arms of a flood<\/p>\n

shall they be overflown from before him,<\/p>\n

and shall be broken;<\/p>\n

yea,<\/p>\n

also the prince of the covenant.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And after the league made with him<\/em><\/p>\n

he shall work deceitfully:<\/em><\/p>\n

for he shall come up,<\/em><\/p>\n

and shall become strong with a small people.<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He shall enter peaceably<\/p>\n

even upon the fattest places of the province;<\/p>\n

and he shall do that<\/p>\n

which his fathers have not done,<\/p>\n

nor his fathers’ fathers;<\/p>\n

he shall scatter among them the prey,<\/p>\n

and spoil,<\/p>\n

and riches:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

yea,<\/p>\n

and he shall forecast his devices<\/p>\n

against the strong holds,<\/p>\n

even for a time.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And he shall stir up his power<\/p>\n

and his courage<\/p>\n

against the king of the south<\/p>\n

with a great army;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and the king of the south<\/p>\n

shall be stirred up to battle<\/p>\n

with a very great<\/p>\n

and mighty army;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

but he shall not stand:<\/p>\n

for they shall forecast devices against him.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Yea,<\/p>\n

they that feed of the portion of his meat<\/p>\n

shall destroy him,<\/p>\n

and his army shall overflow:<\/p>\n

and many shall fall down slain.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And both these kings’ hearts<\/em><\/p>\n

shall be to do mischief,<\/em><\/p>\n

and they shall speak lies at one table;<\/em><\/p>\n

but it shall not prosper:<\/em><\/p>\n

for yet the end shall be at the time appointed.<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Then shall he return into his land<\/p>\n

with great riches;<\/p>\n

and his heart shall be against the holy covenant;<\/p>\n

and he shall do exploits,<\/p>\n

and return to his own land.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

At the time appointed he shall return,<\/p>\n

and come toward the south;<\/p>\n

but it shall not be as the former,<\/p>\n

or as the latter.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For the ships of Chittim shall come against him:<\/p>\n

therefore he shall be grieved,<\/p>\n

and return,<\/p>\n

and have indignation against the holy covenant:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

so shall he do;<\/p>\n

he shall even return,<\/p>\n

and have intelligence with them<\/p>\n

that forsake the holy covenant.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And arms shall stand on his part,<\/p>\n

and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength,<\/p>\n

and shall take away the daily sacrifice,<\/em><\/p>\n

and they shall place the abomination<\/em><\/p>\n

that maketh desolate<\/em>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And such as do wickedly against the covenant<\/em><\/p>\n

shall he corrupt by flatteries<\/em>:<\/p>\n

but the people that do know their God<\/p>\n

shall be strong,<\/p>\n

and do exploits.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And they that understand among the people<\/p>\n

shall instruct many:<\/p>\n

yet they shall fall by the sword,<\/p>\n

and by flame,<\/p>\n

by captivity,<\/p>\n

and by spoil,<\/p>\n

many days.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Now when they shall fall,<\/p>\n

they shall be holpen with a little help:<\/em><\/p>\n

but many shall cleave to them with flatteries<\/em>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And some of them of understanding shall fall,<\/p>\n

to try them,<\/p>\n

and to purge,<\/p>\n

and to make them white,<\/p>\n

even to the time of the end:<\/p>\n

because it is yet for a time appointed<\/em>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And the king shall do according to his will;<\/em><\/p>\n

and he shall exalt himself,<\/em><\/p>\n

and magnify himself above every god,<\/em><\/p>\n

and shall speak marvellous things<\/em><\/p>\n

against the God of gods,<\/em><\/p>\n

and shall prosper<\/em><\/p>\n

till the indignation be accomplished:<\/em><\/p>\n

for that that is determined shall be done.<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers,<\/em><\/p>\n

nor the desire of women,<\/em><\/p>\n

nor regard any god:<\/em><\/p>\n

for he shall magnify himself above all.<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces:<\/em><\/p>\n

and a god whom his fathers knew not<\/em><\/p>\n

shall he honour with gold,<\/em><\/p>\n

and silver,<\/em><\/p>\n

and with precious stones,<\/em><\/p>\n

and pleasant things.<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Thus shall he do in the most strong holds<\/em><\/p>\n

with a strange god,<\/em><\/p>\n

whom he shall acknowledge<\/em><\/p>\n

and increase with glory:<\/em><\/p>\n

and he shall cause them to rule over many,<\/em><\/p>\n

and shall divide the land for gain.<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And at the time of the end<\/p>\n

shall the king of the south push at him:<\/p>\n

and the king of the north<\/p>\n

shall come against him like a whirlwind,<\/p>\n

with chariots,<\/p>\n

and with horsemen,<\/p>\n

and with many ships;<\/p>\n

and he shall enter into the countries,<\/p>\n

and shall overflow and pass over.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He shall enter also into the glorious land,<\/p>\n

and many countries shall be overthrown:<\/p>\n

but these shall escape out of his hand,<\/p>\n

even Edom,<\/p>\n

and Moab,<\/p>\n

and the chief of the children of Ammon.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He shall stretch forth his hand<\/p>\n

also upon the countries:<\/p>\n

and the land of Egypt shall not escape.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But he shall have power<\/p>\n

over the treasures of gold<\/p>\n

and of silver,<\/p>\n

and over all the precious things of Egypt:<\/p>\n

and the Libyans<\/p>\n

and the Ethiopians<\/p>\n

shall be at his steps.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But tidings out of the east<\/p>\n

and out of the north<\/p>\n

shall trouble him:<\/p>\n

therefore he shall go forth with great fury<\/p>\n

to destroy,<\/p>\n

and utterly to make away many.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace<\/p>\n

between the seas in the glorious holy mountain;<\/p>\n

yet he shall come to his end,<\/p>\n

and none shall help him.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And at that time shall Michael stand up,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

the great prince which standeth<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

for the children of thy people:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and there shall be a time of trouble,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

such as never was since there was a nation<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

even to that same time:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

and at that time<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

thy people shall be delivered,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

every one that shall be found written in the book.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And many of them that sleep<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

in the dust of the earth shall awake,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

some to everlasting life,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

and some to shame<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

and everlasting contempt.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And they that be wise shall shine<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

as the brightness of the firmament;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

and they that turn many to righteousness<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

as the stars for ever and ever.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But thou,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

O Daniel,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

shut up the words,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

and seal the book,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

even to the time of the end:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

many shall run to and fro,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

and knowledge shall be increased<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Then I Daniel looked,<\/p>\n

and, behold,<\/p>\n

there stood other two,<\/p>\n

the one on this side of the bank of the river,<\/p>\n

and the other on that side of the bank of the river.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And one said to the man clothed in linen,<\/p>\n

which was upon the waters of the river,<\/p>\n

How long shall it be to the end of these wonders?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And I heard the man clothed in linen,<\/p>\n

which was upon the waters of the river,<\/p>\n

when he held up his right hand<\/p>\n

and his left hand unto heaven,<\/p>\n

and sware by him that liveth for ever<\/p>\n

that it shall be for a time,<\/em><\/p>\n

times,<\/em><\/p>\n

and an half;<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and when he shall have accomplished<\/em><\/p>\n

to scatter the power of the holy people,<\/em><\/p>\n

all these things shall be finished.<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And I heard,<\/p>\n

but I understood not:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

then said I,<\/p>\n

O my Lord,<\/p>\n

what shall be the end of these things?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And he said,<\/em><\/p>\n

Go thy way, Daniel:<\/em><\/p>\n

for the words are closed up<\/em><\/p>\n

and sealed<\/em><\/p>\n

till the time of the end.<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Many shall be purified,<\/p>\n

and made white,<\/p>\n

and tried;<\/p>\n

but the wicked shall do wickedly:<\/p>\n

and none of the wicked shall understand;<\/p>\n

but the wise shall understand.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And from the time that the daily sacrifice<\/em><\/p>\n

shall be taken away,<\/em><\/p>\n

and the abomination that maketh desolate set up,<\/em><\/p>\n

there shall be a thousand<\/em><\/p>\n

two hundred and ninety days.<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Blessed is he that waiteth,<\/em><\/p>\n

and cometh to the thousand three hundred<\/em><\/p>\n

and five and thirty days.<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But go thou thy way till the end be:<\/p>\n

for thou shalt rest,<\/p>\n

and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.<\/p>\n
