THE WORD THAT CAME TO JEREMIAH<\/strong><\/p>\n

FROM THE LORD,<\/strong><\/p>\n

SAYING,<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

THUS SPEAKETH THE LORD GOD OF ISRAEL,<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

SAYING,<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

WRITE THEE ALL THE WORDS<\/strong><\/p>\n

THAT I HAVE SPOKEN UNTO THEE<\/strong><\/p>\n

IN A BOOK.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For, lo,<\/p>\n

the days come,<\/p>\n

saith the LORD,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

that I will bring again the captivity<\/p>\n

of my people Israel<\/p>\n

and Judah,<\/p>\n

saith the LORD:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and I will cause them to return to the land<\/em><\/p>\n

that I gave to their fathers,<\/p>\n

and they shall possess it<\/em>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

AND THESE ARE THE WORDS<\/p>\n

THAT THE LORD SPAKE<\/p>\n

CONCERNING ISRAEL<\/p>\n

AND CONCERNING JUDAH.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

FOR THUS SAITH THE LORD;<\/p>\n

We have heard a voice of trembling,<\/p>\n

of fear,<\/p>\n

and not of peace.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Ask ye now,<\/p>\n

and see whether a man doth travail with child?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

wherefore do I see every man<\/p>\n

with his hands on his loins,<\/p>\n

as a woman in travail,<\/p>\n

and all faces are turned into paleness?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Alas!<\/em><\/p>\n

for that day is great,<\/em><\/p>\n

so that none is like it:<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble;<\/em><\/p>\n

but he shall be saved out of it.<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

FOR IT SHALL COME TO PASS IN THAT DAY,<\/p>\n

saith the LORD of hosts,<\/p>\n

that I will break his yoke from off thy neck,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and will burst thy bonds,<\/p>\n

and strangers shall no more serve themselves of him:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But they shall serve the LORD their God,<\/p>\n

and David their king,<\/p>\n

whom I will raise up unto them.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Therefore fear thou not,<\/p>\n

O my servant Jacob,<\/p>\n

saith the LORD;<\/p>\n

neither be dismayed,<\/p>\n

O Israel:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

for, lo,<\/p>\n

I will save thee from afar,<\/em><\/p>\n

and thy seed from the land of their captivity;<\/em><\/p>\n

and Jacob shall return,<\/em><\/p>\n

and shall be in rest,<\/p>\n

and be quiet,<\/p>\n

and none shall make him afraid.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For I am with thee,<\/p>\n

saith the LORD,<\/p>\n

to save thee:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

though I make a full end of all nations<\/p>\n

whither I have scattered thee,<\/p>\n

yet will I not make a full end of thee<\/em>:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

but I will correct thee in measure,<\/p>\n

and will not leave thee altogether unpunished.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

FOR THUS SAITH THE LORD,<\/p>\n

Thy bruise is incurable,<\/p>\n

and thy wound is grievous.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There is none to plead thy cause,<\/p>\n

that thou mayest be bound up:<\/p>\n

thou hast no healing medicines.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

All thy lovers have forgotten thee;<\/p>\n

they seek thee not;<\/p>\n

for I have wounded thee<\/p>\n

with the wound of an enemy,<\/p>\n

with the chastisement of a cruel one,<\/p>\n

for the multitude of thine iniquity;<\/p>\n

because thy sins were increased.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

WHY CRIEST THOU FOR THINE AFFLICTION?<\/p>\n

thy sorrow is incurable<\/p>\n

for the multitude of thine iniquity:<\/p>\n

because thy sins were increased,<\/p>\n

I have done these things unto thee.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Therefore all they that devour thee<\/p>\n

shall be devoured;<\/p>\n

and all thine adversaries,<\/p>\n

every one of them,<\/p>\n

shall go into captivity;<\/p>\n

and they that spoil thee<\/p>\n

shall be a spoil,<\/p>\n

and all that prey upon thee<\/p>\n

will I give for a prey.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For I will restore health unto thee,<\/p>\n

and I will heal thee of thy wounds,<\/p>\n

saith the LORD;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

because they called thee an Outcast,<\/p>\n

saying,<\/p>\n

This is Zion,<\/p>\n

whom no man seeketh after.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

THUS SAITH THE LORD;<\/p>\n

Behold,<\/p>\n

I will bring again<\/p>\n

the captivity of Jacob\u2019s tents,<\/p>\n

and have mercy on his dwellingplaces;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and the city shall be builded upon her own heap,<\/p>\n

and the palace shall remain after the manner thereof.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving<\/p>\n

and the voice of them that make merry:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and I will multiply them,<\/p>\n

and they shall not be few;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I will also glorify them,<\/p>\n

and they shall not be small.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Their children also shall be as aforetime,<\/p>\n

and their congregation shall be established before me,<\/p>\n

and I will punish all that oppress them.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And their nobles shall be of themselves,<\/p>\n

and their governor shall proceed<\/p>\n

from the midst of them;<\/p>\n

and I will cause him to draw near,<\/p>\n

and he shall approach unto me:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

for who is this that engaged his heart<\/p>\n

to approach unto me?<\/p>\n

saith the LORD.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And ye shall be my people,<\/em><\/p>\n

and I will be your God.<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

BEHOLD,<\/p>\n

THE WHIRLWIND OF THE LORD<\/p>\n

GOETH FORTH WITH FURY,<\/p>\n

a continuing whirlwind:<\/p>\n

it shall fall with pain<\/p>\n

upon the head of the wicked.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The fierce anger of the LORD shall not return,<\/p>\n

until he have done it,<\/p>\n

and until he have performed the intents of his heart:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

in the latter days ye shall consider it.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

At the same time,<\/p>\n

saith the LORD,<\/p>\n

will I be the God of all the families of Israel,<\/p>\n

and they shall be my people.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

THUS SAITH THE LORD,<\/p>\n

The people which were left of the sword<\/p>\n

found grace in the wilderness;<\/p>\n

even Israel,<\/p>\n

when I went to cause him to rest.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The LORD hath appeared of old unto me,<\/p>\n

saying,<\/p>\n

Yea,<\/p>\n

I have loved thee with an everlasting love:<\/p>\n

therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Again I will build thee,<\/p>\n

and thou shalt be built,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

O virgin of Israel:<\/p>\n

thou shalt again be adorned with thy tabrets,<\/p>\n

and shalt go forth in the dances<\/p>\n

of them that make merry.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Thou shalt yet plant vines<\/p>\n

upon the mountains of Samaria:<\/p>\n

the planters shall plant,<\/p>\n

and shall eat them as common things.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For there shall be a day,<\/p>\n

that the watchmen upon the mount Ephraim<\/p>\n

shall cry,<\/p>\n

Arise ye,<\/p>\n

and let us go up to Zion<\/p>\n

unto the LORD our God.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

FOR THUS SAITH THE LORD;<\/p>\n

Sing with gladness for Jacob,<\/p>\n

and shout among the chief of the nations:<\/p>\n

publish ye,<\/p>\n

praise ye,<\/p>\n

and say,<\/p>\n

O LORD,<\/p>\n

save thy people,<\/p>\n

the remnant of Israel.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Behold,<\/p>\n

I will bring them from the north country,<\/em><\/p>\n

and gather them from the coasts of the earth<\/em>,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and with them the blind and the lame,<\/p>\n

the woman with child<\/p>\n

and her that travaileth with child together:<\/p>\n

a great company shall return thither<\/em>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

They shall come with weeping,<\/p>\n

and with supplications will I lead them:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I will cause them to walk<\/p>\n

by the rivers of waters<\/p>\n

in a straight way,<\/p>\n

wherein they shall not stumble:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

for I am a father to Israel,<\/p>\n

and Ephraim is my firstborn.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

HEAR THE WORD OF THE LORD,<\/p>\n

O YE NATIONS,<\/p>\n

and declare it in the isles afar off,<\/p>\n

and say,<\/p>\n

He that scattered Israel will gather him,<\/em><\/p>\n

and keep him,<\/em><\/p>\n

as a shepherd doth his flock.<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For the LORD hath redeemed Jacob,<\/em><\/p>\n

and ransomed him<\/em> from the hand<\/p>\n

of him that was stronger than he.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Therefore they shall come<\/p>\n

and sing in the height of Zion,<\/p>\n

and shall flow together<\/p>\n

to the goodness of the LORD,<\/p>\n

for wheat,<\/p>\n

and for wine,<\/p>\n

and for oil,<\/p>\n

and for the young of the flock<\/p>\n

and of the herd:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and their soul shall be as a watered garden;<\/p>\n

and they shall not sorrow any more at all.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance,<\/p>\n

both young men and old together:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

for I will turn their mourning into joy,<\/p>\n

and will comfort them,<\/p>\n

and make them rejoice from their sorrow.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness,<\/p>\n

and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness,<\/p>\n

saith the LORD.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Thus saith the LORD;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

A voice was heard in Ramah,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

lamentation,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

and bitter weeping;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Rachel weeping for her children<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

refused to be comforted for her children,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

because they were not.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

THUS SAITH THE LORD;<\/p>\n

Refrain thy voice from weeping,<\/p>\n

and thine eyes from tears:<\/p>\n

for thy work shall be rewarded,<\/p>\n

saith the LORD;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and they shall come again<\/em><\/p>\n

from the land of the enemy.<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And there is hope in thine end,<\/p>\n

saith the LORD,<\/p>\n

that thy children shall come again<\/em><\/p>\n

to their own border<\/em>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself thus;<\/p>\n

Thou hast chastised me,<\/p>\n

and I was chastised,<\/p>\n

as a bullock unaccustomed to the yoke:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

turn thou me,<\/p>\n

and I shall be turned;<\/p>\n

for thou art the LORD my God.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Surely after that I was turned,<\/p>\n

I repented;<\/p>\n

and after that I was instructed,<\/p>\n

I smote upon my thigh:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I was ashamed,<\/p>\n

yea,<\/p>\n

even confounded,<\/p>\n

because I did bear the reproach of my youth.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

IS EPHRAIM MY DEAR SON?<\/p>\n

IS HE A PLEASANT CHILD?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

for since I spake against him,<\/p>\n

I do earnestly remember him still:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

therefore my bowels are troubled for him;<\/p>\n

I will surely have mercy upon him,<\/p>\n

saith the LORD.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Set thee up waymarks,<\/p>\n

make thee high heaps:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

set thine heart toward the highway,<\/p>\n

even the way which thou wentest:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

turn again,<\/p>\n

O virgin of Israel,<\/p>\n

turn again to these thy cities.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

HOW LONG WILT THOU GO ABOUT,<\/p>\n

O THOU BACKSLIDING DAUGHTER?<\/p>\n

for the LORD hath created a new thing in the earth,<\/p>\n

A woman shall compass a man<\/em>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Thus saith the LORD of hosts,<\/p>\n

the God of Israel;<\/p>\n

As yet they shall use this speech<\/p>\n

in the land of Judah<\/p>\n

and in the cities thereof,<\/p>\n

when I shall bring again their captivity;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The LORD bless thee,<\/p>\n

O habitation of justice,<\/p>\n

and mountain of holiness.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And there shall dwell in Judah itself,<\/p>\n

and in all the cities thereof together,<\/p>\n

husbandmen,<\/p>\n

and they that go forth with flocks.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For I have satiated the weary soul,<\/p>\n

and I have replenished every sorrowful soul.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Upon this I awaked,<\/p>\n

and beheld;<\/p>\n

and my sleep was sweet unto me.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

BEHOLD,<\/p>\n

THE DAYS COME,<\/p>\n

SAITH THE LORD,<\/p>\n

that I will sow the house of Israel<\/p>\n

and the house of Judah<\/p>\n

with the seed of man,<\/p>\n

and with the seed of beast.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

AND IT SHALL COME TO PASS,<\/p>\n

that like as I have watched over them,<\/p>\n

to pluck up,<\/p>\n

and to break down,<\/p>\n

and to throw down,<\/p>\n

and to destroy,<\/p>\n

and to afflict;<\/p>\n

so will I watch over them,<\/p>\n

to build,<\/p>\n

and to plant,<\/p>\n

saith the LORD.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

IN THOSE DAYS THEY SHALL SAY NO MORE,<\/p>\n

The fathers have eaten a sour grape,<\/p>\n

and the children’s teeth are set on edge.<\/p>\n

But every one shall die for his own iniquity:<\/p>\n

every man that eateth the sour grape,<\/p>\n

his teeth shall be set on edge.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Behold,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

the days come,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

saith the LORD,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

that I will make a new covenant<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

with the house of Israel,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

and with the house of Judah:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Not according to the covenant<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

that I made with their fathers<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

in the day that I took them by the hand<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

to bring them out of the land of Egypt;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

which my covenant they brake,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

although I was an husband unto them,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

saith the LORD:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But this shall be the covenant<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

that I will make with the house of Israel;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

After those days,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

saith the LORD,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

I will put my law in their inward parts,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

and write it in their hearts;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

and will be their God,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

and they shall be my people.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And they shall teach no more<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

every man his neighbour,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

and every man his brother,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

saying,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Know the LORD:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

for they shall all know me,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

from the least of them<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

unto the greatest of them,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

saith the LORD:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

for I will forgive their iniquity,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

and I will remember their sin no more.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

THUS SAITH THE LORD,<\/p>\n

which giveth the sun for a light by day,<\/p>\n

and the ordinances of the moon<\/p>\n

and of the stars for a light by night,<\/p>\n

which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The LORD of hosts is his name:<\/p>\n

If those ordinances depart from before me,<\/p>\n

saith the LORD,<\/p>\n

then the seed of Israel<\/p>\n

also shall cease from being a nation<\/p>\n

before me for ever.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

THUS SAITH THE LORD;<\/p>\n

If heaven above can be measured,<\/p>\n

and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath,<\/p>\n

I will also cast off all the seed of Israel<\/p>\n

for all that they have done,<\/p>\n

saith the LORD.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

BEHOLD,<\/p>\n

THE DAYS COME,<\/p>\n

SAITH THE LORD,<\/p>\n

that the city shall be built to the LORD<\/p>\n

from the tower of Hananeel<\/p>\n

unto the gate of the corner.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And the measuring line<\/p>\n

shall yet go forth over against it<\/p>\n

upon the hill Gareb,<\/p>\n

and shall compass about to Goath.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And the whole valley of the dead bodies,<\/p>\n

and of the ashes,<\/p>\n

and all the fields unto the brook of Kidron,<\/p>\n

unto the corner of the horse gate toward the east,<\/p>\n

shall be holy unto the LORD;<\/p>\n

it shall not be plucked up,<\/p>\n

nor thrown down any more for ever.<\/p>\n
