A PSALM OF DAVID.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n PLEAD MY CAUSE,<\/strong><\/p>\n O LORD,<\/strong><\/p>\n WITH THEM THAT STRIVE WITH ME:<\/strong><\/p>\n FIGHT AGAINST THEM THAT FIGHT AGAINST ME.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Take hold of shield and buckler,<\/p>\n and stand up for mine help.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Draw out also the spear,<\/p>\n and stop the way against them that persecute me:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n say unto my soul,<\/p>\n I am thy salvation.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Let them be confounded<\/p>\n and put to shame<\/p>\n that seek after my soul:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n let them be turned back<\/p>\n and brought to confusion<\/p>\n that devise my hurt.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Let them be as chaff before the wind:<\/p>\n and let the angel of the LORD chase them.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Let their way be dark and slippery:<\/p>\n and let the angel of the LORD persecute them.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n For without cause have they hid for me<\/p>\n their net in a pit,<\/p>\n which without cause they have digged for my soul.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Let destruction come upon him at unawares;<\/p>\n and let his net that he hath hid catch himself:<\/p>\n into that very destruction let him fall.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD:<\/p>\n it shall rejoice in his salvation.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n All my bones shall say,<\/p>\n LORD,<\/p>\n who is like unto thee,<\/p>\n which deliverest the poor<\/p>\n from him that is too strong for him,<\/p>\n <\/p>\n yea,<\/p>\n the poor<\/p>\n and the needy<\/p>\n from him that spoileth him?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n False witnesses did rise up;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n they laid to my charge things that I knew not.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n They rewarded me evil for good<\/p>\n to the spoiling of my soul.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n But as for me,<\/p>\n when they were sick,<\/p>\n my clothing was sackcloth:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I humbled my soul with fasting;<\/p>\n and my prayer returned into mine own bosom.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I behaved myself<\/p>\n as though he had been my friend<\/p>\n or brother:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I bowed down heavily,<\/p>\n as one that mourneth for his mother.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n But in mine adversity they rejoiced,<\/p>\n and gathered themselves together:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n yea,<\/p>\n the abjects gathered themselves together against me,<\/p>\n and I knew it not;<\/p>\n <\/p>\n they did tear me,<\/p>\n and ceased not:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n With hypocritical mockers in feasts,<\/p>\n they gnashed upon me with their teeth.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Lord,<\/p>\n how long wilt thou look on?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n rescue my soul from their destructions,<\/p>\n my darling from the lions.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I will give thee thanks in the great congregation:<\/p>\n I will praise thee among much people.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Let not them that are mine enemies<\/p>\n wrongfully rejoice over me:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n neither let them wink with the eye<\/p>\n that hate me without a cause.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n For they speak not peace:<\/p>\n but they devise deceitful matters<\/p>\n against them that are quiet in the land.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Yea,<\/p>\n they opened their mouth wide against me,<\/p>\n and said,<\/p>\n Aha, aha,<\/p>\n our eye hath seen it.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n This thou hast seen,<\/p>\n O LORD:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n keep not silence:<\/p>\n O Lord,<\/p>\n be not far from me.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Stir up thyself,<\/p>\n and awake to my judgment,<\/p>\n even unto my cause,<\/p>\n my God and my Lord.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Judge me,<\/p>\n O LORD my God,<\/p>\n according to thy righteousness;<\/p>\n and let them not rejoice over me.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Let them not say in their hearts,<\/p>\n Ah,<\/p>\n so would we have it:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n let them not say,<\/p>\n We have swallowed him up.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Let them be ashamed<\/p>\n and brought to confusion together<\/p>\n that rejoice at mine hurt:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n let them be clothed with shame<\/p>\n and dishonour<\/p>\n that magnify themselves against me.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Let them shout for joy,<\/p>\n and be glad,<\/p>\n that favour my righteous cause:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n yea,<\/p>\n let them say continually,<\/p>\n Let the LORD be magnified,<\/p>\n which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n And my tongue shall speak of thy righteousness<\/p>\n and of thy praise all the day long.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n next<\/a><\/p>\n <\/p>\n prev\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" A PSALM OF DAVID.
