<\/p>\n
AND IT CAME TO PASS,<\/strong><\/p>\n WHEN THE KING SAT IN HIS HOUSE,<\/strong><\/p>\n AND THE LORD HAD GIVEN HIM REST<\/strong><\/p>\n ROUND ABOUT FROM ALL HIS ENEMIES;<\/strong><\/p>\n THAT THE KING SAID UNTO NATHAN THE PROPHET,<\/strong><\/p>\n See now,<\/p>\n I dwell in an house of cedar,<\/p>\n but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n And Nathan said to the king,<\/p>\n Go,<\/p>\n do all that is in thine heart;<\/p>\n for the LORD is with thee.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n And it came to pass that night,<\/p>\n that the word of the LORD came unto Nathan,<\/p>\n saying,<\/p>\n Go and tell my servant David,<\/p>\n Thus saith the LORD,<\/p>\n Shalt thou build me an house for me to dwell in?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Whereas I have not dwelt in any house<\/p>\n since the time that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt,<\/p>\n even to this day,<\/p>\n but have walked in a tent<\/p>\n and in a tabernacle.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In all the places wherein I have walked<\/p>\n with all the children of Israel<\/p>\n spake I a word with any of the tribes of Israel,<\/p>\n whom I commanded to feed my people Israel,<\/p>\n saying,<\/p>\n Why build ye not me an house of cedar?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Now therefore so shalt thou say<\/p>\n unto my servant David,<\/p>\n Thus saith the LORD of hosts,<\/p>\n I took thee from the sheepcote,<\/p>\n from following the sheep,<\/p>\n to be ruler over my people,<\/p>\n over Israel:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n And I was with thee<\/p>\n whithersoever thou wentest,<\/p>\n and have cut off all thine enemies<\/p>\n out of thy sight,<\/p>\n and have made thee a great name,<\/p>\n like unto the name of the great men<\/p>\n that are in the earth.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israel,<\/p>\n and will plant them,<\/p>\n that they may dwell in a place of their own,<\/p>\n and move no more;<\/p>\n neither shall the children of wickedness<\/p>\n afflict them any more,<\/p>\n as beforetime,<\/p>\n And as since the time that I commanded judges<\/p>\n to be over my people Israel,<\/p>\n and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Also the LORD telleth thee<\/p>\n that he will make thee an house.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n And when thy days be fulfilled,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n I will set up thy seed after thee,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n which shall proceed out of thy bowels,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n and I will establish his kingdom.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n He shall build an house for my name,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n I will be his father,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n and he shall be my son.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n If he commit iniquity,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n I will chasten him with the rod of men,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n and with the stripes of the children of men:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n But my mercy shall not depart away from him,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n as I took it from Saul,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n whom I put away before thee.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n And thine house<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n and thy kingdom<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n shall be established for ever before thee:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n thy throne shall be established for ever.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n According to all these words,<\/p>\n and according to all this vision,<\/p>\n so did Nathan speak unto David.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Then went king David in,<\/p>\n and sat before the LORD,<\/p>\n and he said,<\/p>\n Who am I,<\/p>\n O Lord GOD?<\/p>\n and what is my house,<\/p>\n that thou hast brought me hitherto?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n And this was yet a small thing in thy sight,<\/p>\n O Lord GOD;<\/p>\n but thou hast spoken also of thy servant’s house<\/em><\/p>\n for a great while to come.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n And is this the manner of man,<\/p>\n O Lord GOD?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n And what can David say more unto thee?<\/p>\n for thou,<\/p>\n Lord GOD,<\/p>\n knowest thy servant.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n For thy word’s sake,<\/p>\n and according to thine own heart,<\/p>\n hast thou done all these great things,<\/p>\n to make thy servant know them.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Wherefore thou art great,<\/p>\n O LORD God:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n for there is none like thee,<\/p>\n neither is there any God beside thee,<\/p>\n according to all that we have heard with our ears.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n And what one nation in the earth<\/p>\n is like thy people,<\/p>\n even like Israel,<\/p>\n whom God went to redeem for a people to himself,<\/p>\n and to make him a name,<\/p>\n and to do for you great things and terrible,<\/p>\n for thy land,<\/p>\n before thy people,<\/p>\n which thou redeemedst to thee from Egypt,<\/p>\n from the nations and their gods?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n For thou hast confirmed to thyself thy people Israel<\/p>\n to be a people unto thee for ever:<\/p>\n and thou,<\/p>\n LORD,<\/p>\n art become their God.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n And now,<\/p>\n O LORD God,<\/p>\n the word that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant,<\/p>\n and concerning his house,<\/p>\n establish it for ever,<\/p>\n and do as thou hast said.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n And let thy name be magnified for ever,<\/p>\n saying,<\/p>\n The LORD of hosts is the God over Israel:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n and let the house of thy servant David<\/p>\n be established before thee.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n For thou,<\/p>\n O LORD of hosts,<\/p>\n God of Israel,<\/p>\n hast revealed to thy servant,<\/p>\n saying,<\/p>\n I will build thee an house:<\/p>\n therefore hath thy servant found in his heart<\/p>\n to pray this prayer unto thee.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n And now,<\/p>\n O Lord GOD,<\/p>\n thou art that God,<\/p>\n and thy words be true,<\/p>\n and thou hast promised this goodness<\/p>\n unto thy servant:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Therefore now let it please thee<\/p>\n to bless the house of thy servant,<\/p>\n that it may continue for ever before thee:<\/p>\n for thou,<\/p>\n O Lord GOD,<\/p>\n hast spoken it:<\/p>\n and with thy blessing let the house of thy servant<\/p>\n be blessed for ever.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n And after this it came to pass,<\/p>\n that David smote the Philistines,<\/p>\n and
