AND THE LORD MET BALAAM,<\/strong><\/p>\n

AND PUT A WORD IN HIS MOUTH,<\/strong><\/p>\n

AND SAID,<\/strong><\/p>\n

GO AGAIN UNTO BALAK,<\/strong><\/p>\n

AND SAY THUS.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And when he came to him,<\/p>\n

behold,<\/p>\n

he stood by his burnt offering,<\/p>\n

and the princes of Moab with him.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And Balak said unto him,<\/p>\n

What hath the LORD spoken?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And he took up his parable,<\/p>\n

and said,<\/p>\n

Rise up,<\/p>\n

Balak,<\/p>\n

and hear;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

hearken unto me,<\/p>\n

thou son of Zippor:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

God is not a man,<\/p>\n

that he should lie;<\/p>\n

neither the son of man,<\/p>\n

that he should repent:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

hath he said,<\/p>\n

and shall he not do it?<\/p>\n

or hath he spoken,<\/p>\n

and shall he not make it good?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Behold,<\/p>\n

I have received commandment to bless:<\/p>\n

and he hath blessed;<\/p>\n

and I cannot reverse it.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob,<\/p>\n

neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

the LORD his God is with him,<\/p>\n

and the shout of a king is among them.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

God brought them out of Egypt;<\/p>\n

he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob,<\/p>\n

neither is there any divination against Israel:<\/p>\n

according to this time<\/p>\n

it shall be said of Jacob<\/p>\n

and of Israel,<\/p>\n

What hath God wrought!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Behold,<\/p>\n

the people shall rise up as a great lion,<\/em><\/p>\n

and lift up himself as a young lion:<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey,<\/em><\/p>\n

and drink the blood of the slain.<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And Balak said unto Balaam,<\/p>\n

Neither curse them at all,<\/p>\n

nor bless them at all.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But Balaam answered<\/p>\n

and said unto Balak,<\/p>\n

Told not I thee,<\/p>\n

saying,<\/p>\n

All that the LORD speaketh,<\/p>\n

that I must do?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And Balak said unto Balaam,<\/p>\n

Come,<\/p>\n

I pray thee,<\/p>\n

I will bring thee unto another place;<\/p>\n

peradventure it will please God<\/p>\n

that thou mayest curse me them from thence.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And Balak brought Balaam unto the top of Peor,<\/p>\n

that looketh toward Jeshimon.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And Balaam said unto Balak,<\/p>\n

Build me here seven altars,<\/p>\n

and prepare me here seven bullocks<\/p>\n

and seven rams.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And Balak did as Balaam had said,<\/p>\n

and offered a bullock<\/p>\n

and a ram<\/p>\n

on every altar.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And when Balaam saw<\/p>\n

that it pleased the LORD<\/p>\n

to bless Israel,<\/p>\n

he went not,<\/p>\n

as at other times,<\/p>\n

to seek for enchantments,<\/p>\n

but he set his face toward the wilderness.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And Balaam lifted up his eyes,<\/p>\n

and he saw Israel abiding in his tents<\/p>\n

according to their tribes;<\/p>\n

and the spirit of God came upon him.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And he took up his parable,<\/p>\n

and said,<\/p>\n

Balaam the son of Beor hath said,<\/p>\n

and the man whose eyes are open hath said:<\/p>\n

He hath said,<\/p>\n

which heard the words of God,<\/p>\n

which saw the vision of the Almighty,<\/p>\n

falling into a trance,<\/p>\n

but having his eyes open:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

How goodly are thy tents,<\/p>\n

O Jacob,<\/p>\n

and thy tabernacles,<\/p>\n

O Israel!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As the valleys are they spread forth,<\/p>\n

as gardens by the river’s side,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

as the trees of lign aloes<\/p>\n

which the LORD hath planted,<\/p>\n

and as cedar trees<\/p>\n

beside the waters.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He shall pour the water out of his buckets,<\/p>\n

and his seed shall be in many waters,<\/p>\n

and his king shall be higher than Agag,<\/p>\n

and his kingdom shall be exalted.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

God brought him forth out of Egypt;<\/p>\n

he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn:<\/p>\n

he shall eat up the nations his enemies,<\/p>\n

and shall break their bones,<\/p>\n

and pierce them through with his arrows.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He couched,<\/em><\/p>\n

he lay down as a lion,<\/em><\/p>\n

and as a great lion:<\/em><\/p>\n

who shall stir him up?<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Blessed is he that blesseth thee,<\/em><\/p>\n

and cursed is he that curseth thee.<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And Balak’s anger was kindled against Balaam,<\/p>\n

and he smote his hands together:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and Balak said unto Balaam,<\/p>\n

I called thee to curse mine enemies,<\/p>\n

and,<\/p>\n

behold,<\/p>\n

thou hast altogether blessed them<\/p>\n

these three times.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Therefore now flee thou to thy place:<\/p>\n

I thought to promote thee unto great honour;<\/p>\n

but,<\/p>\n

lo,<\/p>\n

the LORD hath kept thee back from honour.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And Balaam said unto Balak,<\/p>\n

Spake I not also to thy messengers<\/p>\n

which thou sentest unto me,<\/p>\n

saying,<\/p>\n

If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold,<\/p>\n

I cannot go beyond the commandment of the LORD,<\/p>\n

to do either good<\/p>\n

or bad<\/p>\n

of mine own mind;<\/p>\n

but what the LORD saith,<\/p>\n

that will I speak?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And now,<\/p>\n

behold,<\/p>\n

I go unto my people:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

come therefore,<\/p>\n

and I will advertise thee<\/p>\n

what this people shall do<\/p>\n

to thy people<\/p>\n

in the latter days.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And he took up his parable,<\/p>\n

and said,<\/p>\n

Balaam the son of Beor hath said,<\/p>\n

and the man whose eyes are open hath said:<\/p>\n

He hath said,<\/p>\n

which heard the words of God,<\/p>\n

and knew the knowledge of the most High,<\/p>\n

which saw the vision of the Almighty,<\/p>\n

falling into a trance,<\/p>\n

but having his eyes open:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I shall see him,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

but not now:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

I shall behold him,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

but not nigh:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

there shall come a Star out of Jacob,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

and shall smite the corners of Moab,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

and destroy all the children of Sheth.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And Edom shall be a possession,<\/p>\n

Seir also shall be a possession for his enemies;<\/p>\n

and Israel shall do valiantly.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Out of Jacob shall come<\/em><\/p>\n

he that shall have dominion,<\/em><\/p>\n

and<\/p>\n

shall destroy him that remaineth of the city.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And when he looked on Amalek,<\/p>\n

he took up his parable,<\/p>\n

and said,<\/p>\n

Amalek was the first of the nations;<\/p>\n

but his latter end shall be that he perish for ever.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And he looked on the Kenites,<\/p>\n

and took up his parable,<\/p>\n

and said,<\/p>\n

Strong is thy dwellingplace,<\/p>\n

and thou puttest thy nest in a rock.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Nevertheless the Kenite shall be wasted,<\/p>\n

until Asshur shall carry thee away captive.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And he took up his parable,<\/p>\n

and said,<\/p>\n

Alas,<\/p>\n

who shall live when God doeth this!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And ships shall come from the coast of Chittim,<\/p>\n

and shall afflict Asshur,<\/p>\n

and shall afflict Eber,<\/p>\n

and he also shall perish for ever.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And Balaam rose up,<\/p>\n

and went and returned to his place:<\/p>\n

and Balak also went his way.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And Israel abode in Shittim,<\/p>\n

and the people began to commit whoredom<\/p>\n

with the daughters of Moab.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And they called the people<\/p>\n

unto the sacrifices of their gods:<\/p>\n

and the people did eat,<\/p>\n

and bowed down to their gods.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor:<\/p>\n

and the anger of the LORD was kindled<\/p>\n

against Israel.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And the LORD said unto Moses,<\/p>\n

Take all the heads of the people,<\/p>\n

and hang them up before the LORD<\/p>\n

against the sun,<\/p>\n

that the fierce anger of the LORD<\/p>\n

may be turned away from Israel.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And Moses said unto the judges of Israel,<\/p>\n

Slay ye every one his men<\/p>\n

that were joined unto Baalpeor.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And,<\/p>\n

behold,<\/p>\n

one of the children of Israel came<\/p>\n

and brought unto his brethren<\/p>\n

a Midianitish woman<\/p>\n

in the sight of Moses,<\/p>\n

and in the sight of all the congregation<\/p>\n

of the children of Israel,<\/p>\n

who were weeping before the door<\/p>\n

of the tabernacle of the congregation.<\/p>\n

And when Phinehas,<\/p>\n

the son of Eleazar,<\/p>\n

the son of Aaron the priest,<\/p>\n

saw it,<\/p>\n

he rose up from among the congregation,<\/p>\n

and took a javelin in his hand;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And he went after the man of Israel<\/p>\n

into the tent,<\/p>\n

and thrust both of them through,<\/p>\n

the man of Israel,<\/p>\n

and the woman through her belly.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So the plague was stayed<\/p>\n

from the children of Israel.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And those that died in the plague<\/p>\n

were twenty and four thousand.<\/p>\n
